Hi Chanin G,Thank you for sharing your experience with us
Had a great tour of this old prison. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I chose the English tour over the French. There is really only 1 English tour listed on the website and when I went to go on it I was told the guide was ill and that the tour would be the next day. I came the next day and had to wait a while as the tour guide was running late. I read that the tour is conducted by ex prisoners, but I believe that is the case only for the French tours. In any case, the English tour was very interesting and the prison has been kept mostly in it's original state. well worth the visit of this old prison.
We enjoyed the visit especially that an old inmate was the guide. Do not miss this visit if you stop in 3-Rivieres
Highly recommended tour but not for the overly sensitive as the prison had conditions that were appallingly cruel for inmates incarcerated here. Shamefully this was the case until the prison closed in 1986! At the end of the tour, Bill, our English speaking excon guide, left us with a positive inspirational message much needed after vividly recounting the misery of life in this prison.
